I’m not in a great mood today. “Aunt Flo” is here and she’s a bitch! Oh, that reminds me, how many of you saw Oprah’s special with Dr. Oz about all the “personal” stuff? It was very interesting. Here are some tidbits:

*Motrin is the best thing you can take for cramps. The specialist recommended taking it a day or even 2 before your period is supposed to start so you have it in your system. Smart, huh? I didn’t actually do that, and now I could kick myself. I’m popping them now though and they really do help. They also said water, exercise, sleep, and a heating pad will all help.

* You know you’re drinking enough water if your pee is clear. If yours is yellow (or, God forbid, any OTHER color) you’re not getting enough water.

* If your poop is white it means your liver isn’t producing bile correctly. Someone asked “why is poop brown” and Dr. Oz said it’s the bile that’s mixed with the food in the stomach to aid in digestion that causes the brown color because it’s naturally a reddish-brown. So, if your poop turns white – it’s an indication of a liver problem. Aren’t you glad you know this now?

* Clots (especially large egg-size ones), very heavy periods (can fill a maxi pad in an hour or less) and/or severe cramps can all be a sign of benign uterine fibroids so if you have any or all of these you should tell your doctor.

* You should “dab” or wipe front to back only. A significant number of uterine infections (UTI)could be avoided, says Dr. Oz, if women would wipe front to back or “dab”. On Oprah’s online poll, 1% of responders said they “air dried” – YUCK!

Hubby got me flowers yesterday. No particular reason – he just said he wanted to. They’re gorgeous – cream colored with a dark pink on the tips and outside. 25 of them so I had to go buy a new vase to hold them all. Thanks hubby. They make me feel better. I don’t know why flowers are such a big deal to women. I think they make us feel special and they’re romantic.

I’m ready for the colder, fall weather. It was in the 80’s here yesterday and it’s in the 70’s today. Tomorrow we’re supposed to be in the high 50’s so hopefully, we’ll stay cool. I want to use my fireplace and curl up with some good books. That’s my excuse why…

I’ve been in a reading slump recently. I haven’t read much and I have a review due tomorrow for a book and I’m only on page 22. I’m going to finish it today or tomorrow and will get the review done on time but, it just seems like nothing is interesting me right now but tv.

I’m SO glad Vivica A. Fox got kicked off Dancing with the Stars! I never thought she was as good as the judges thought she was. They just gushed over her and I never saw what they saw. She wasn’t bad, but I didn’t think she was as great as they thought she was.

I’m really getting into the new show Heroes on Monday nights. It’s so interesting. If you haven’t watched it – you really should check it out.

I’m loving the show Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe right now. I know I’ve said this before, but he’s so funny and entertaining and the stuff he has to do is just too gross for words. Last night he was at a garbage dump where they sort the trash into food stuff and burn that for methane gas. They processed enough in last night’s episode to power 1000 homes. It’s really interesting but they were in this big spinner which sorts the food and stuff and they have to go in with sticks and hoes to clean out the machine when it’s done. Mike is standing there and looks behind him and sees this thing danging. He grabs it and pulls it off and they figure out it’s a liver and part of intestines!!! If that isn’t gross – I don’t know what it. YUCK!

Well, you’re probably tired of me rambling for now. More endless droning later, I guess.

  1. That’s sweet about the flowers. I love receiving flowers. ๐Ÿ™‚

When I catch it, I enjoy Dirty Jobs. I recently watched the one with him at a pig farm. It was funny.

  2. Thanks for all the info. ๐Ÿ™‚ Quick nitpick, UTI = Urinary Tract Infections, not uterine. And another really good way to prevent the evil UTI is to make sure you go pee directly after intercourse.

  3. I watched the beginning of that episode. So I caught the info about the brown poop. LOL I would have liked to seen the menstrual bits-because bananas help with cramps too. (A man gave me that bit of sage advice. hehe)

  4. I saw that Oprah show and now I’ve got Motrin on my list. My cramps were really bad as a teen but got better in my 20’s. Now in my 30’s and they are out for blood! I was heading to the doc for some serious pain meds but I will try the Motrin first.

Awwww, flowers just because. Hubby has just started to buy me flowers again – he had a real dry spell but he’s on his game again ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think the ‘reading slump’ is contagious right now. It seems there are a few of us who can’t seem to pick up anything to read. Meh.

The minute I saw the commercial for Dirty Jobs I was out. No way in hell I can know about that kind of stuff so thanks for the visual ๐Ÿ˜‰ Blergh

  5. I’m with you Cindy! I never even had cramps in my teens or 20’s but now that I’m in my 30’s – they’re kicking my butt! I’m sitting here with a heating pad on my lower back right now. Over the past year not only have my cramps gotten bad but I get back aches every month now too. GGrrrrrr!

  6. Bananas are an awesome cramp reliever.

If you have toe or leg cramps and eat a banana, for me it goes away instanteous.

I’m in a major slump. I’m reading but nothing is that great. And I can’t seem to find anything to post about so I’m slumping in blog land as well.

  7. HI Valeen, Just popping by via CindyS! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hubby is sweet. Sorry to hear about the bad period. My struggles are always with the bad PMS in the week before.
